MV0305DAM01351N: Diesel Fuel Filter for the Mahindra Bolero 2.5 and Scorpio 2.49 and 2.5

MV0305DAM01351N, sometimes written 0305DAM01351N, is the genuine Mahindra diesel fuel filter element for the Bolero 2.5 and the Scorpio 2.49 and 2.5. It is a pleated paper element that arrives with its O-ring, ready to drop into the filter housing. Here is how to tell a filter is blocked, how to fit it, and how to bleed the system afterwards.

Key takeaways

  • One filter, two ways of writing the number: MV0305DAM01351N and 0305DAM01351N.
  • It is the replaceable element only, supplied with a new O-ring.
  • A blocked filter starves the engine under load: expect weak climbing, hard starts or stalling.
  • Always fit the new O-ring (lightly oiled with clean diesel), drain water from the housing and bleed with the hand primer.
  • Change it more often than the schedule if your diesel is poor quality.

What the filter protects

The diesel in the tank is never perfectly clean. It carries fine dirt, rust flakes from storage tanks and sometimes water. The fuel filter sits between the tank and the injection system and catches that before it reaches the injection pump and the injectors, where parts are machined to very fine tolerances and are easily scored.

MV0305DAM01351N is the element inside the housing: pleated paper held between two metal end caps, with an O-ring that seals it into the housing.

The part number, written three ways

We see this filter requested in several forms, and they all point to the same part:

As writtenNotes

0305DAM01351NThe same number without the MV prefix
0305 DAM 01351 NAs it is often typed from a parts book, with spaces

If your old filter has a different number on the can, send us a photo and the VIN, and we will tell you whether it is the same one.

Signs of a blocked filter

What you noticeWhy it happens
Power drops on hills or with a full loadThe filter cannot pass enough fuel when demand is highest
Engine is hard to start, or stallsFuel supply is restricted or interrupted
Water collects in the housingPoor-quality diesel or condensation in the tank

A blocked filter is cheap to rule out, so do it before looking at the pump or injectors. Where fuel quality is poor, change the filter more often than the service schedule says.

Fitting and bleeding

  1. Clean around the filter housing so no dirt falls in when you open it.
  2. Drain any water from the housing, then remove the old element.
  3. Check that the old O-ring has come out with it. A doubled O-ring will leak and let air in.
  4. Smear the new O-ring with clean diesel and seat the new element.
  5. Refit the housing and tighten it as the workshop manual specifies.
  6. Use the hand primer to push fuel through and bleed the air out before you crank the engine.
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks around the housing.

Why diesel cleanliness matters

Modern diesel injection works at very high pressures, with parts machined to tight tolerances, so even small particles and water can damage injectors and pumps. Reference sources describe the fuel filter as the component that removes particles (and, in many designs, separates water) before the fuel reaches the injection equipment. Check your engine's service schedule for the correct interval.
