0305GAM00701N / 0305GAM00301N: Turbocharger for the Mahindra Scorpio S10 New Model

0305GAM00701N and 0305GAM00301N are Mahindra's two references for the genuine turbocharger of the Scorpio S10 new model. It is a complete unit, with actuator and ports capped for shipping, so it bolts on as it arrives. The part matters less than the reason the old turbo failed, so this guide starts there.

Key takeaways

  • Two numbers, one turbo: 0305GAM00701N and 0305GAM00301N are both listed for the Scorpio S10 new model.
  • It is the full turbocharger with actuator, not a core and not a bare cartridge.
  • Turbos rarely die on their own: oil starvation, dirty oil and intake debris are the usual causes.
  • Renew the oil feed pipe and banjo washers, change the oil and filter, and check the intake and intercooler for fragments.
  • Prime with clean oil and idle for a minute before applying load.

What you receive

This is the full turbocharger: turbine and compressor housings, the rotating assembly in between, and the actuator that controls boost, with every port capped for shipping. Nothing has to be transferred from the old turbo.

Mahindra lists it under two references. You may find 0305GAM00701N on one invoice and 0305GAM00301N in a parts book, and both are listed for the same vehicle.

Why turbos fail

The turbine spins at very high speed on a film of engine oil, which both lubricates and cools the bearings. That makes the turbo exactly as healthy as its oil supply, and it explains why the usual causes are:

CauseWhat it doesWhat to check
Oil starvationThe bearings run dry and overheatOil level, feed pipe, oil pressure
Dirty or contaminated oilParticles wear the bearing and shaftOil and filter service history
Foreign object damageDebris chews the compressor or turbine wheelAir filter, intake pipes, intercooler

What to renew with the turbo

  • Oil feed pipe and banjo washers: a restricted feed is the classic way to kill a new turbo.
  • Engine oil and filter: fresh oil, before the turbo spins for the first time.
  • Intake and intercooler: look for fragments of the old wheel and flush if needed.
  • Oil return line: make sure it is free-flowing and not kinked or blocked.

Fitting and first start

  1. Remove the old turbo and inspect the exhaust manifold and intake pipes for debris.
  2. Fit new gaskets and fix the turbo in place without removing the port caps until the last moment.
  3. Connect the new oil feed pipe and return line with new washers.
  4. Pour clean engine oil into the oil inlet so the bearings are wet at first rotation.
  5. Crank briefly without starting if possible, until oil pressure registers.
  6. Start the engine and let it idle for a minute before putting any load on it. Check for oil and exhaust leaks.

What the manufacturer says

Garrett, one of the world's largest turbocharger makers, states that turbocharger failures are most often traced to oil starvation, oil contamination and foreign object damage, rather than to manufacturing defects. It also notes that a failed turbo can be a symptom of another fault, such as a restricted air filter, a damaged exhaust or a lubrication problem. Fitting a new turbo without finding the cause can mean losing it as quickly as the old one.

Frequently asked questions

Which number do I need, 0305GAM00701N or 0305GAM00301N?

Both references are listed for the Scorpio S10 new model. Send your VIN and we will confirm against Mahindra's catalogue before quoting.

Will it fit the earlier Scorpio?

No. Earlier Scorpio engines use different turbochargers, which we list separately. This one is for the S10 new model.

Is it a complete turbo or just a cartridge?

It is the complete turbocharger with the actuator, ports capped for shipping. Nothing needs transferring from the old turbo.

Why did my turbo fail?

Most often oil starvation, dirty oil or debris in the intake. Fix the cause before fitting a new turbo or it can fail just as fast.

What should I do before the first start?

Prime the turbo with clean oil, then let the engine idle for a minute so oil reaches the bearings before any load goes on.
