0303AAC00740N is the genuine Mahindra engine oil pump for the Bolero 2.5 and the Scorpio 2.49, 2.5 and 2.6. It comes as one unit: pump body, drive gear and pickup strainer. Before you fit one, read the short checklist below, because a low oil pressure warning has several causes and the pump is not always the culprit.
The oil pump is driven from the engine and pulls oil out of the sump through a strainer, a fine mesh on the end of a pickup pipe that keeps large debris out of the pump. From there the oil is pushed under pressure to the bearings and the rest of the engine. A relief valve returns the surplus to the sump at high speed, so pressure stays within limits.
On the Bolero and Scorpio engines listed here, the pump is supplied with its drive gear and the strainer already attached, so it goes in as one piece.

A flickering oil light at hot idle, or a gauge that reads low, makes people suspect the pump straight away. The pump is only one of several possible causes. Work through this list from the cheapest check to the most expensive:
| Order | Check | Why it gives the same symptom |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Oil level on the dipstick | A low level lets the pump draw air |
| 2 | Oil grade and condition | Thin or diluted oil gives lower pressure |
| 3 | Oil pressure switch or gauge sender | A faulty sender can light the warning with normal pressure |
| 4 | Pickup strainer for sludge | A blocked strainer starves the pump |
| 5 | The pump itself | Worn gears or a stuck relief valve lose pressure |
If the first four are clear and a mechanical gauge still reads low, the pump (and the bearings it feeds) are next in line.

This comes from our 0303AAC00740N part page. The Scorpio 2.2 mHawk is not on this list, so do not order by model name alone: the engine number matters.
Reference works describe the same arrangement: the pump draws oil from the sump through a pickup with a strainer, and a pressure relief valve returns excess oil to the sump so that pressure does not climb too high at speed. Low pressure can come from a low oil level, thin oil, a restricted pickup, a relief valve held open by debris, or wear inside the pump, which is why the order of checks above matters.
