You can tell a genuine Mahindra part from a fake by checking seven things: the packaging, the label, the part number, any security label, the markings on the part, the finish, and the paperwork from your supplier. If even one of these looks wrong, hold the part and check it before you sell or fit it.
| Who this is for | Importers, distributors, dealers, fleets and workshops |
| Brand | Mahindra (genuine parts in Mahindra packaging) |
| Number of checks | 7: packaging, label, part number, security label, markings, finish, paperwork |
| Best single check | The part number on the label matches the Mahindra part number for your VIN |
| Mahindra VIN prefix | MA1 (world manufacturer code for Mahindra & Mahindra) |
| When to check | On receipt of goods, before stock goes on the shelf |
A fake part costs more than the money you paid for it. It can fail early, damage other parts, and cost you a customer. For an importer or distributor, one bad batch can mean returns from many workshops at once.
Fast-moving service parts are the usual targets, because they sell in volume: filters, brake pads and shoes, clutch parts, bearings and suspension links.
Genuine parts come in Mahindra-branded packaging. Printing is sharp, colours are even, and there are no spelling mistakes. Blurry print, faded colours or a plain box are warning signs.
The label shows the Mahindra part number and a description. Check that the label is printed, not handwritten or stuck over another label.
The part number on the label must match the number you ordered, letter for letter. Mahindra part numbers often look like 0303BC0071N (a mix of digits and letters, often ending in N). Watch for one changed character.
Many genuine parts carry a security label or hologram. Designs can change over time and differ between parts. If a label you expect is missing, or looks printed rather than holographic, ask your supplier for photos of a known genuine pack.
Look for clean, sharp markings on the part itself. Blurry, painted or missing markings are a warning sign.
Compare the new part with the old one. Check weight, size, casting quality, seals and threads. A genuine part fits without force.
Your supplier should give an invoice that lists each part number and quantity, so every box can be traced back to the order.

Part numbers can be superseded, so a newer number may replace an older one. A good supplier tells you when that happens.
