1102CA1950N: Power Steering Hose, Gear to Pump (LHD), for the Mahindra Scorpio 2.2 and S10

1102CA1950N is the genuine Mahindra power steering hose between the steering gear and the pump for the left-hand-drive Mahindra Scorpio 2.2 and S10. It is built for left-hand-drive routing, so it is the one to ask for when exporting to LHD markets. It does not fit a right-hand-drive Scorpio.

Key takeaways

  • 1102CA1950N is the LHD hose, carrying fluid between the power steering pump and the steering gear.
  • Left- and right-hand-drive Scorpios route this hose differently: do not order by model name alone.
  • It is a formed assembly: rubber sections joined to bent steel pipes, ends capped for shipping.
  • Replace it for a weeping crimp, a cracked or swollen rubber section, or fluid near the steering rack.
  • Fit new sealing washers, route it as the old one ran, then bleed by turning the steering lock to lock.

What the hose is and does

On a hydraulic power-steering Scorpio, the pump, driven by the engine, supplies fluid pressure that helps you turn the wheel. This hose carries fluid between the pump and the steering gear. It is not a plain rubber pipe: it is made of rubber sections for the parts that move or flex, joined to steel pipes, which are bent to the shape of the engine bay.

Why the LHD hose is different

Mahindra builds the Scorpio for India, where cars are right-hand drive, and for left-hand-drive markets too. The steering layout is mirrored, so the hose routing differs between the two. A hose made for the right-hand-drive vehicle will not line up on a left-hand-drive one, and the reverse is also true.

Signs it needs replacing

What you see or hearWhat it points to
Fluid weeping at a crimped endThe crimp is failing
Rubber that is cracked, soft or swollenThe hose has aged or been attacked by oil
Fluid dripping near the steering rackA leak on the hose, or at a union
Whining when turning, or heavy steeringLow fluid or air in the system, often after a leak

Run a finger along the hose (with the engine off and cold) and check the unions: a wet union may only need a new sealing washer.

Fitting and bleeding

  1. Place a tray under the vehicle and disconnect the old hose at the pump and at the steering gear.
  2. Compare the new hose with the old: the bends and the end fittings should match.
  3. Remove the green caps from the new hose only when you are ready to connect it.
  4. Route it exactly as the old hose ran, clear of the exhaust and of moving parts.
  5. Fit new sealing washers at the unions and tighten to the workshop manual figure.
  6. Fill the reservoir with the specified fluid.
  7. With the engine idling, turn the steering lock to lock several times, topping up as the level drops, until the whine goes away. Check for leaks at both unions.

How hydraulic steering works

In a hydraulic power-steering system, an engine-driven pump supplies pressurised fluid to the steering gear, which uses it to assist your effort at the wheel. Opening a hose lets air in, and air in the fluid is a common cause of whining and uneven assist. That is why every hose replacement ends with topping up and bleeding the system, and why a persistent noise after the job should send you back to check the unions.
