0802AA0280N and 0802CA0130N are two Mahindra references for one genuine clutch slave cylinder. It is listed for the Mahindra Bolero 2.5 and the Scorpio 2.0, 2.49, 2.5 and 2.6, and arrives with the pushrod, dust boot and bleed nipple already fitted. Key takeaways

  • Two numbers, one cylinder: 0802AA0280N and 0802CA0130N are both listed for the same part.
  • It sits on the bell housing and pushes the clutch release fork when the pedal goes down.
  • Fluid on the housing, grinding gears or a sinking pedal are the classic failure signs.
  • Bleed with fresh fluid of the grade in your owner's manual, and look at the master cylinder at the same time.
  • Send the VIN with the part number so we can match it to your engine.

What the clutch slave cylinder does

When you press the clutch pedal, the master cylinder at the pedal pushes fluid down a pipe to the gearbox end. The slave cylinder is the part that receives it. It bolts to the bell housing and its pushrod moves the clutch release fork, which in turn pulls the clutch apart so you can change gear.

Because the whole job is done by a small piston and a rubber seal, the failure is almost always the seal. Once it lets go, the pedal can no longer produce enough movement at the fork.

Why there are two part numbers

Customers often write to us with one number from an old invoice and another from a parts book, and ask whether they need both. They do not. Mahindra lists this one cylinder under 0802AA0280N and under 0802CA0130N. You can search with either, and you will also see it written with spaces, as 0802 AA 0280 N.

What matters is that the number you quote is tied to a VIN, so that we match the cylinder to the vehicle in front of you rather than to the badge on the tailgate.

Which vehicles it fits

Mahindra Scorpio2.50802AA0280N / 0802CA0130N
Mahindra Scorpio2.60802AA0280N / 0802CA0130N

This is taken from our 0802AA0280N part page. It does not list the Scorpio 2.2, which uses a concentric slave cylinder inside the bell housing instead: see our guide to 0802CAA04380N if that is your engine.

Signs the slave cylinder is failing

What you noticeWhat it usually means
Fluid on the bell housing or running down the dust bootThe piston seal is leaking
Gears grind going in, especially first and reverseThe clutch is not fully releasing
Pedal slowly sinks to the floor, or has to be pumpedFluid is escaping, or air has got in
Reservoir level keeps droppingThere is an external or internal leak somewhere in the circuit

Check the master cylinder as well. It wears at the same rate, and a tired master cylinder can make a new slave feel exactly as bad as the old one.

Fitting and bleeding

  1. Support the vehicle safely and disconnect the clutch pipe at the slave cylinder, catching the fluid. Brake fluid damages paint.
  2. Unbolt the old cylinder and compare it with the new one: the mounting points and the pushrod length should match.
  3. Fit the new cylinder with its dust boot in place, and reconnect the pipe.
  4. Fill the reservoir with fresh fluid of the grade in the owner's manual.
  5. Open the bleed nipple on the cylinder and work the pedal slowly, keeping the reservoir topped up, until no air comes through. Close the nipple before releasing the pedal.
  6. Check the pedal feels firm and that every gear engages cleanly with the engine running.

Why fresh fluid matters

Clutch and brake fluids based on glycol absorb moisture from the air. That is by design, but it lowers the boiling point and encourages corrosion inside the bore, which is why a new cylinder should never be filled from a tin that has been open for months. US standard FMVSS 116 sets the minimum wet boiling point at 140 °C for DOT 3 and 155 °C for DOT 4, against 205 °C and 230 °C dry.

Frequently asked questions

Is 0802AA0280N the same part as 0802CA0130N?

Yes. Mahindra lists this one cylinder under both references. Quote either number and we check the current one against your VIN.

Does 0802AA0280N fit the Bolero and the Scorpio?

It is listed for the Bolero 2.5 and the Scorpio 2.0, 2.49, 2.5 and 2.6. Send the VIN before ordering so we can confirm it against Mahindra's catalogue.

How do I know the slave cylinder is failing?

Fluid on the bell housing or down the boot, gears that grind because the clutch does not fully release, or a pedal that slowly sinks.

Should I replace the clutch master cylinder as well?

Inspect it. It works at the same rate as the slave cylinder, so a worn master cylinder can make a new slave cylinder feel as bad as the old one.

What comes in the box?

The cylinder with its pushrod, dust boot and bleed nipple already fitted.
