0601AAA0021KT / 0603BAB02720N: Front Brake Pad Set for the Mahindra XUV500

0601AAA0021KT and 0603BAB02720N are Mahindra's two references for the genuine front brake pad set of the XUV500. One set covers the whole front axle: four pads, two of them with wear-sensor leads, plus the anti-rattle clips and two bolts. Here is what the wear light means, how to fit the set, and how to bed it in.

Key takeaways

  • One set, two numbers: 0601AAA0021KT and 0603BAB02720N are both listed for the XUV500 front pads.
  • It is a full front-axle set: four pads, two wear-sensor leads, clips and bolts.
  • When the wear warning light comes on, replace the pads promptly or the backing plate will score the discs.
  • Check disc thickness and run-out, clean the caliper slides, and push the pistons back slowly while watching the fluid level.
  • Bed the pads in with moderate stops before any hard braking.

Two part numbers, one set

Mahindra lists the XUV500 front pads as 0601AAA0021KT and also as 0603BAB02720N. If you are searching an invoice, a parts book or a marketplace and see either, you are looking at the same front pad set. We confirm which one is current for your VIN, so you do not need to work it out yourself.

The wear-sensor light

Two of the four pads carry a lead and connector. When the friction material wears down to the sensor, the warning light comes on. That is your cue to replace the pads, not to wait: run further and the metal backing plate will score the brake discs, and a pad change becomes a pad and disc change.

Other signs that point the same way are a squeal, a grinding noise, or a pedal that travels further than it used to. Squeal or grinding can also mean a sticking caliper, which is why the slides get cleaned as part of the job.

Fitting the set

  1. Remove the wheel and take off the caliper, supporting it so that it does not hang on the brake hose.
  2. Take out the worn pads and unplug the wear-sensor connector.
  3. Check the discs for scoring and minimum thickness, and for run-out.
  4. Clean and lightly lubricate the caliper slides, and fit the new anti-rattle clips.
  5. Push the pistons back slowly while watching the fluid level in the reservoir.
  6. Fit the new pads in their positions, connect the sensor leads, and refit the caliper with the bolts.
  7. Repeat on the other side, pump the pedal until firm, and check the fluid level.

Bedding in

New pads need to settle against the discs. For the first few journeys, use a series of moderate stops and avoid hard braking, and give the brakes a few kilometres to bed in before you rely on full braking force.

A note on brake fluid

Pushing the pistons back raises the fluid level in the reservoir, so check it before you start. A pad change is also a good moment to look at the fluid itself: glycol-based brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point. US standard FMVSS 116 sets minimum wet boiling points of 140 °C for DOT 3 and 155 °C for DOT 4. Use the grade in your owner's manual.
