The condenser sits in front of the engine radiator and turns hot high-pressure gas back into liquid. It is the first thing stones, salt and road debris reach, so corrosion and impact damage are the usual reasons one is replaced rather than any internal wear.
Weak cooling with high system pressures points at the condenser — either it is blocked externally with dirt and bent fins, or internally restricted. Wash the fins out before condemning it; a matted core behaves exactly like a failed one.
Opening the circuit to change the condenser saturates the drier, so the two are replaced together as a matter of course. If the compressor failed and shed debris, add the expansion valve to the list.
Keep the blanking caps on until the unions are ready, evacuate the system properly and recharge to the specified weight. Air left in the circuit raises head pressure and undoes the benefit of the new core.
